RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Governor Larry Rhoden says South Dakota has joined the Governors’ Coalition for Energy Security, a multi-state alliance focused on keeping energy affordable and reliable while protecting consumer choice.
“I am a firm believer in an all-of-the-above energy approach,” Rhoden said in a statement. “South Dakotans deserve reliable, affordable energy and the freedom to choose what power source works best for their homes and businesses. Through this Coalition, we will deliver common-sense energy policies that strengthen our economy and protect consumer choice.”
The Coalition was founded by former South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, and other state leaders to address rising energy costs and inflation. Its mission includes reducing regulatory barriers, limiting costly energy mandates, and coordinating efforts to manage energy resources and environmental impacts.
South Dakota is already a leader in renewable energy production. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, 81% of the state’s electricity generation comes from renewable sources, primarily wind and hydropower.
Rhoden joins a roster of governors and Canadian premiers committed to energy security, including leaders from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Wyoming, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Virginia, and the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.
