Maine expands recall of cannabis vape cartridges after pesticide detection

November 14, 2025

Yani vape cartridge recall expanded after tests find unsafe pesticide levels; four strains now flagged and buyers urged to return or discard products.

MAINE, USA — The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy on Friday expanded a health and safety recall for several adult-use vape cartridges produced by NorCO Outdoor Cannabis, also known as Yani, after state testing detected unsafe levels of the pesticide chlorfenapyr.

The expansion builds on an Oct. 27 recall issued for Yani’s Watermelon Chimera vape cartridges, which were pulled from shelves after routine testing detected chlorfenapyr. At the time, it was the only strain affected.

The updated recall now includes three additional strains — Apples & Bananas, Cherry Tartufo, and Lemon Cherry Pie — all produced by Yani and sold at adult-use cannabis stores across Maine between March 10 and Oct. 23, 2025.

OCP said the recall is part of an ongoing investigation into contaminated cannabis products. Chlorfenapyr, an EPA-regulated pesticide not approved for use on cannabis, can pose serious health risks if inhaled or ingested.

Consumers who purchased any of the recalled cartridges should return them to the retailer or dispose of them. Anyone who has used these products and is experiencing symptoms or adverse reactions should contact a healthcare provider immediately or call 911 in an emergency.

A full list of affected retail stores and additional product details is available on the OCP website.
