NORTH PORT, Fla. (WWSB) – North Port Police say they were looking for people who they say chased and injured a fawn while riding all-terrain vehicles.

In a Facebook post, the North Port Police Department said the young deer became entangled in a fence after allegedly being chased by the ATV riders.

It suffered minor injuries and was traumatized, but was expected to recover.

“Man, people can be jerks,” the social media post said.

Environment Conservation Officer Dominick Caravella was able to safely free the deer and ensure it received the medical attention it needed.

“Sometimes stories like this don’t have a happy ending. Thankfully, this one does,” the Facebook post said.

“As for the knuckleheads who chased the deer… we are working to identify them so we can have a chat.”
