How to use cannabis safely

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – We spoke with a local dispensary about how to use cannabis safely amid new retailer concerns.
It is important to know how to safely use cannabis, especially if you’ve never used the product before. Joey Coleman, Owner of Kai Dispensary, said, “I want to make sure people get reliable cannabis, and I want to make sure they’re educated on use.”
The first place to start with cannabis safety can be at a local dispensary. “We make sure to try to relay that information to our customers, so they understand what they’re getting, they understand how to use it, and they understand a safe way to consume cannabis.” said Coleman.
There are different kinds of cannabis products, and they can affect you differently. “We let people know the percentages of THC in it, the percentages of minor cannabinoids, what those will do and how they affect you. And if you’re a first-time smoker, okay, this is maybe a good option. If you have been smoking a long time, this is a great option. There’s also concentrates. Those are going to be a much stronger product,” said Coleman.
And just like with alcohol, if you are using cannabis, never get behind the wheel. “You should not be doing those things when you’re under the influence of any substance,” said Coleman.
It is also important to know how much is safe to consume. “This is going to be a bad day for you if you consume too much. Anything we send out the door will be safe. But there’s a difference between safe and what that consumer is here for. Some of them are using it medicinally. Some are using it recreationally. We like to have a two-way conversation to make sure that they know exactly what they’re going to get and what that effect will be from that amount,” said Coleman.
Recently a few cannabis products across the state have been recalled. If you have a product that falls into that category, throw it out immediately.
