A consortium of CWP Global, InterContinental Energy, and Mirning Green Energy is seeking approval for its proposed Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH), a 70 GW renewable power and green hydrogen production facility project, in the south-east of Western Australia, submitted its application to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) of the state for approval. 

The project would include up to 3,000 wind turbines rated up to 20 MW and up to 35 solar PV plants totalling 6 million solar panels across 2.9 million hectares. The project would be built in seven stages over a 30-year period, with the first stage including around 6 GW of wind and solar PV power supplying centrally-sited electrolysers to produce 330 kt/year of green hydrogen. Construction could start as soon as 2029 and first production is expected in 2032. 

When fully developed, the AUD100bn (US$65bn) project could produce up to 3.5 Mt/year of green hydrogen for local, regional and international use, along with ammonia. In September 2024, the WGEH developers inked a collaboration agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) on the project.
