American Solar Energy Society touring multiple Northeast Ohio locations Oct. 4-6

October 3, 2024

The American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Tour will be rolling through Northeast Ohio and stopping at multiple locations Oct. 4 – 6.

The tour is in its 31st year visiting regional host sites, noted coordinator Tom Rapini.

It will also feature an Electric Vehicle Rally from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at Laketran’s Wickliffe Park-n-Ride, 29551 Lakeland Blvd.

“We are expecting some local auto dealers to bring electric cars to display, as this rally is part of National Drive Electric Week,” Rapini said. “Laketran will display and describe one of its electric buses, and several EV owners have committed to bringing their electric cars to showcase and describe to attendees, including a Tesla Cybertruck, a Ford Lightning, Chevy Bolts, a Tesla Y, and a Hyundai Ioniq.

“There will (also) be a guided bus tour coming out of the David E. Anderson Willoughby Senior Center at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4, which will stop at the rally and six or seven other sites in Lake and Cuyahoga counties,” he added, noting participants will learn about solar energy and wind power systems.

An additional guided bus tour beginning at 9 a.m. (to 2 p.m.) on Oct. 5 will depart from the Mentor Senior Center and visit seven or eight renewable energy sites in Mentor.

Tours are free and include a free lunch.

Ample seating remains, Rapini noted, adding reservations can be made by contacting Valerie Garrett at 440-231-0842.

“The purpose of the National Solar Tour has always been to increase awareness and promote energy efficiency, and, for the last 10 years or so, electric vehicles,” he emphasized.

“The (National Solar Tour) centers around neighborhood discussions about solar, recommendations on installers, financing, local laws, and other considerations and hesitations around installing solar panels, purchasing electric vehicles, and instating energy efficiency upgrades.”
