“Jazz Cannabis” club in Detroit targeted in attempted smash and grab

DETROIT (FOX 2) – Police are investigating an early morning smash and grab on Detroit’s westside. The men involved left behind a huge hole in the building, and a costly repair bill for the owner of the “Jazz Cannabis” club.
“They drove the U-haul through the back end of the building and left a huge hole,” said Jazz Cannabis Club owner George Vrikho.
A whole new level of smash and grab on Detroit’s west side. Several bad guys, using this huge UHaul to ram their way into the Jazz Cannabis Club on Telegraph near West McNichols early Wednesday morning.
“It’s pretty frustrating,” said Vrikho. “You know we’re all trying to make it. The economy is pretty rough right now. People trying to make ends meet and for us to sustain this kind of damage really hurts the small business owners.”
Sources say four men wearing all black and allegedly spotted in a white 2016 Ford Explorer, did not get away with anything, but their only attempt sent shock waves down the spine of the owner and management already trying to do business in a tough environment.
“There is no insurance coverage for this type of business,” he said. “If we do get insurance it’s very expensive, and you have to treat it like it’s a jewelry store. You have to put everything in a vault.”
It’s not the first time someone has tried to rip them off either.
“The first time they tried to come through the back they used a sledgehammer to get in,” he said. “Thankfully, they were not able to get in as well to the actual dispensary, but it’s the second time this happened.”
Vrikho says he’s grateful for the quick police response, and he vows to press on while preserving critical inventory.
“We can’t afford to take a hit. We’re barely making it in today’s time. The margins are pretty horrible right now.”
So the big question here, is this a crew that’s been up to no good before? Well, the police say it’s a bit early to tell.
Their investigation is ongoing.
