Adani powers up 551 MW of solar as part of huge renewables project

Indian renewables developer Adani Green Energy Ltd (BOM:541450) on Wednesday said it has powered up 551 MW of solar capacity in Khavda, Gujarat, where it plans to develop 30 GW of clean energy.

The commissioning of the first 551 MW of solar capacity at the site comes 12 months after the company started work on the Khavda RE park.

Adani Green Energy anticipates that the planned capacity of 30 GW for the Khavda RE park will be operational within the next five years, making it the world’s largest renewable energy installation upon completion. The complex is estimated to be able to power 16.1 million homes.

The developer explained that Khavda, located in the Kutch district of Gujarat, offers favourable conditions for wind and solar generation.

The project is backed by multiple studies conducted over the past five years, the company said and added it is also focusing “on developing indigenous and resilient supply chains with significantly increased share of localised procurement, such as WTGs [wind turbine generators] and trackers.”

“Adani Green Energy is creating one of the world’s most extensive renewable energy ecosystems for solar and wind,” commented Adani Group’s chairman Gautam Adani. The project demonstrates Adani Group’s leading role in accelerating India’s clean energy transition towards its ambitious goals of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, Gautam Adani also said.

Adani Green Energy says it has an operational portfolio of 9,029 MW and total portfolio of 20,844 MW.
