Axpo secures 163MW in French renewable energy tenders

November 21, 2024

Axpo has secured a combined capacity of 163MW in recent public tenders for solar and wind energy organised by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), the results of which were announced in November 2024.

The projects are expected to contribute significantly to local renewable energy supply and align with France’s ambitious energy targets.

Axpo’s solar division, through its subsidiary Urbasolar, secured the second-highest awarded capacity in France at 124 megawatts peak (MWp).

This capacity is distributed across 20 projects, including ground-mounted, agriculture photovoltaic (PV) and floating PV installations in nine French regions.

Axpo Solar division head and Urbasolar CEO Antoine Millioud stated: “With this tender, Axpo’s cumulative awarded solar power capacity has surpassed 1.7 gigawatts since the CRE tenders began more than a decade ago.

“We’re pleased to secure the second-highest capacity in the country and remain committed to leveraging our extensive experience and expertise to deliver state-of-the-art projects that drive the energy transition forward.”

Axpo’s wind division, through its subsidiary Volkswind, was awarded 39MW for four upcoming wind farm developments.

Axpo Wind division head and Volkswind CEO Katja Stommel stated: “This award reinforces Axpo’s commitment to wind energy in France. Over the years, we have built a strong portfolio of wind projects, combining local expertise with international know-how.

“The awarded projects reflect our dedication to sustainable and innovative energy solutions, benefitting the communities where we operate.”

Axpo has a presence in key markets across Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Poland and Spain.

In 2023, the Swiss renewable energy producer signed an eight-year power purchase agreement with Austrian polyolefins recycler Borealis.
