KALAMAZOO, Mich. — You have until Friday, Feb. 7 to sign up for an online program being offered at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) to help you kickstart your career in cannabis. The next round of classes will be offered in April.

The college has been partnering with marijuana company, Green Flower, since 2022.

There are three different certifications being offered: one teaching you how to grow cannabis, another teaching you how to legally run a cannabis store, and a program teaching you how to make tinctures, topicals and edibles.

The CEO of Green Flower, Max Simon, had this to say to people who may think there are already enough people in the cannabis industry.

“Despite the fact that Michigan has a very thriving cannabis market, we still don’t even have federal legalization yet, and that means that we haven’t really started the true, national cannabis industry and so if people are excited and passionate about cannabis, I guarantee there’s still lots of room for growth.”

He also said, “Anybody, even people that aren’t students with the school can sign up for this program because this is offered through the Continuing Education Department.”

Simon says that’s why this program may appeal to students just beginning to choose a career or even working adults looking for a career change.

Each program is about nine weeks long and around $1,000.

This program is also offered at Baker College and Northern Michigan University.
