Cost report spurs clean-energy debate

November 25, 2024

(Nov. 25, 2024) New Englanders may experience yearly spikes in their electricity bills compounded by rolling blackouts during the winter as the region continues to embrace renewable energy sources, according to a new report from conservative-leaning think tanks.

Residential electricity prices could climb by nearly $100 each year if 225 GW of new renewable energy is added to the New England grid by 2050, as Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont aim to slash their carbon emissions by at least 80 percent, the report calculates.
