Dems assign new senators to energy, environment panels

Incoming Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is poised to join the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, party leaders announced Thursday.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer also confirmed panel ranking members, including Sen. Martin Heinrich of New Mexico for Energy and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island for Environment and Public Works.

Gallego, who is replacing Kyrsten Sinema in the Senate, will likewise serve on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs committees.

Incoming Sens. Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware and Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland will serve on Environment and Public Works.
