LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -DTE Energy has begun generating power at its largest solar park to date.

The Company says the park which is named the Sauk Solar Park is located in Branch County, near the town of Coldwater, and consists of nearly 347 thousand solar panels, which will generate 150 megawatts of power. That amount of energy is enough to power approximately 40 thousand homes.

The Sauk Solar Park is more than three times the size of their second largest solar park, located near the city of Lapeer. DTE says they have five additional parks under construction, in an attempt to meet customer demand for clean energy. It is also part of their goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions as well as meeting Michigan’s renewable energy standard of 60% by the year 2035.

The company’s ultimate goal is to generate enough power using solar and wind to generate enough energy for more than 5 million homes by the year 2042.
