Dubuque County continues renewable energy ordinance debate, requests new details

September 20, 2024

The Dubuque County Board of Supervisors continues to deliberate the county’s proposed renewable energy ordinance after a meeting this week, which did reveal more details about what some supervisors wish to see.

Supervisors reached a verbal consensus to consider a kind of middle tier for utility solar, to allow for some installations tucked away in parcels of rural property deemed appropriate. Some supervisors also want to ignore the Zoning Commission’s exclusion of karst land and require an environmental impact assessment for each individual project proposal. Supervisors and the public also continued to look east to Alliant’s Grant County (Wis.) solar project as an end result that they did not want in Dubuque County.
