Dubuque County supervisors agree to change some proposed renewable energy restrictions

October 24, 2024

The Dubuque County Board of Supervisors — split differently by issue — reached consensus this week on several amendments to a proposed renewable energy ordinance for the county, continuing the body’s recent progress on developing the regulations.

In an hourslong work session, the board focused on regulations for utility-scale solar projects up to 50 acres. Supervisors eliminated proposed height restrictions on solar panel developments but kept in the draft ordinance a two-year cap on 600 total acres of developments before the rule is reviewed again. Supervisors also kept a 1,000-foot setback from public buildings, homes or feedlots on solar projects of 50 acres or less.
