On the beach at Hammamet in Tunisia, between a ruined building and a luxury hotel, 40 environmental journalists and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from three North African countries got a hand-on look at how coastal erosion is rapidly progressing, what that means and what solutions coastal protection offers.
Since 2023, DW Akademie’s “Parler Environnement” project has provided expert environmental training for media professionals and environmental activists from Tunisia, Algeria and Mauritania. The journalists attended informational workshops and the activists received media training on how to better place short, concise statements in the media and tailor their core messages to specific target groups and platforms. The project concluded with a conference in Hammamet, Tunisia, in November.
DW Akademie’s “Parler Environnement” project was funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented in Tunisia in partnership with the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Among other things, the foundation contributed by providing experts and scientists for the training courses.
