Gov. signs executive order to build renewable energy, climate-ready workforce

September 23, 2024

A transition to clean energy sources and new infrastructure investments by the state and federal governments have led to increased construction costs and a strained workforce, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in an executive order released Monday.

Those factors, plus a push for “climate-ready” construction, require a new workforce focused on building up the clean energy sector and bolstering infrastructure against the effects of climate change, the governor said.

Her executive order calls for almost a dozen agencies to jointly create a workforce development and training plan, with education programs even for K-12 students on career opportunities.
