Hochul Vetoes Excise Tax Schedule Change for Cannabis Growers

Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) has vetoed a bill giving cannabis cultivators more time to pay state excise tax.
- Cannabis growers and processors will continue paying the state’s 9% excise tax every quarter. The bill (A10196/S9359) would have allowed producers to pay the full amount at the end of the year.
- Bill sponsors said the update would have produced a “financial lifeline to currently struggling producers and processors” and reflected the state’s treatment of the alcohol excise tax.
