Illinois released sales figures for adult-use cannabis in November today. They were up 4.9% sequentially to $149.3 million. On a per-day basis, sales rose 8.4%. The year-over-year growth was +7.3%, better than the +2.5% in October after the first decline ever recorded in September:
Units sold increased by 41.6% from a year ago, suggesting lower prices or substitution of lower-priced products by consumers. Units sold rose 4.8% sequentially, abating this trend with a rise slightly below sales growth.
After increasing 106% in 2021, 13% in 2022 and then 5% in 2023, year-to-date adult-use sales are up 6.0% in 2024 to $$1.14 billion. During November, sales to non-residents were 21.5%:
The state separately releases sales from its medical program, and the release for November showed that sales rose 6.0% sequentially to $23.5 million, which was down 8.0% from a year ago:
For November, combined adult-use and medical sales were $172.8 million, increasing 5.1% sequentially and up 4.9% from a year ago.:
Total sales of $1.96 billion in 2023 were up 3% from 2022. So far in 2024, sales have increased 3% from the start of 2023.
