Jeff Bezos slams report about $600M Aspen wedding to Lauren Sanchez…
December 22, 2024
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was forced to address reports that he planned on dropping $600 million his Aspen, Colo., nuptials to Lauren Sanchez as “completely false.”
“This whole thing is completely false — none of this is happening,” Bezos, 60, wrote on the platform in response to the scuttlebutt Sunday morning.
“The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even more true today than it ever has been,” the Washington Post owner continued.
“Now lies can get ALL the way around the world before the truth can get its pants on. So be careful out there folks and don’t be gullible.”
Bezos’ refutation quoted an X post from fellow billionaire and Pershing Square CEO Bill Ackman, who shot down the unseemly nuptials price tag as “not credible,” noting that spending such a lavish sum was impossible “unless you are buying each of your guests a house.”
Daily Mail was the first to report the claims, citing a “well-placed source” who reportedly said the ceremony was to take place at actor Kevin Costner’s 160-acre Aspen ranch.
The outlet also reported that the wedding — which was said to be taking place next weekend — would include a mountaintop ceremony and “private mansions” booked for each of the wedding guests in the tony mountain resort town.
The couple went public with their relationship in 2019, keeping a low profile until the magnate’s divorce from his first wife, MacKenzie Scott, was finalized.
They got engaged in May 2023.
With a net worth around $250 billion, and falling just behind Tesla CEO and Trump bestie Elon Musk for the title of world’s richest man, Bezos is a frequent target of the anti-capitalist left, who came out in droves on X to condemn the dubious lavish wedding rumors.
“That’s not a $600 million wedding, that’s Jeff Bezos giving his middle finger to the entire world,” one commenter moaned.
“To put this into perspective, Bezos could give EVERY SINGLE ONE of his 275,000 Amazon delivery drivers a $2000 USD raise and it would be CHEAPER than his wedding by $50 MILLION dollars!” wrote another, apparently accepting the gossip as gospel truth.
Amazon workers are currently on strike in several states including New York to get the company to offer a contract guaranteeing better working conditions and higher pay.
