There’s *** sense of quiet and calm in Plains, Georgia, the hometown of former President Jimmy Carter, after it was announced that he has passed away at the age of 100 years old. Beyond being elected President of the United States, Carter was an incredible person growing up as *** cotton and peanut farm. Working on his family’s farm here in southwest Georgia, he eventually left and went to the Naval Academy, becoming *** nuclear submariner before returning to Georgia to run his family’s business. Politics came calling, and he became Georgia’s 76th governor back in 1971, causing ripples almost immediately, saying, quote, The time for racial discrimination is over. *** few years later he won the presidential election in 1977. But only held one term. *** devout Christian, Carter remembers the time during his presidency and his autobiography *** Full Life of the moments when he was able to speak with several world leaders and show them his religion, Christianity. He talks about that being some of his best memories from the White House and certainly that’s how he’s being remembered tonight in Plains, Georgia. I’m Andy Cole.

President Joe Biden has scheduled a state funeral in Washington for former President Jimmy Carter on Jan. 9.Biden also declared Jan. 9 as a National Day of Mourning across the U.S. Carter, the longest-lived former president, died Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia. He was a man of deep faith, and did everything with principle and grace, doing things the right way for the right reasons.”
