LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – At the first of the year, medical marijuana patients in Kentucky will be able to get prescriptions for medical cannabis. At A-list Medical Cannabis Clinic and Spa in Jeffersontown, there are high hopes (no pun intended) that there will be a steady stream of patients seeking the relief offered by medical cannabis products.

The clinic is the brainchild of nurse practitioner Cyndi Byers who was diagnosed a year ago with M-S.

“Really it was to create a wellness center,” Byers said, “where I could get something like medical cannabis and also there’s red light therapy, there is massage. It’s a whole, holistic approach.”

Patients diagnosed with aliments including chronic pain, PTSD, multiple sclerosis, chronic nausea and cancer, will be able to bring their medical records to the clinic where a staff of nurse practitioners will issue prescriptions.

“Chronic pain, PTSD, multiple sclerosis, chronic nausea, cancer,” nurse practitioner Heidi Gallo said, “those are all diagnoses that patients tend to be medicated with other things that THC can help now.”

Gallo and other nurse practitioners will soon begin writing prescriptions, scheduling follow-up visits and tracking patients’ progress. What you will not find at the Clinic and Spa are the cannabis products. Only two dispensaries are licensed in Jefferson County. Neither will be ready for business at the first of the year.

Early patients will have to drive to Ohio to fill a prescription. Predictions currently point to March of 2025 as when medical cannabis products will be available for purchase in Kentucky.
