New York State Reaches Solar Milestone – Finger Lakes Daily News

October 20, 2024

New York State has hit a solar milestone.

Governor Hochul has announced that six gigawatts of distributed solar have been installed throughout New York, meeting a Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act goal a year ahead of schedule. This is projected to provide enough power for over one million homes and businesses across the state.

“Today we celebrate the early achievement of New York’s 6-GW milepost, which brings us one step closer to a reliable and resilient zero-emission grid,” Governor Kathy Hochul said. “Distributed solar is at the heart of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, expanding the availability of renewable energy, and delivering substantial benefits for our health, our environment, and our economy.”

Albany’s goal is to achieve 70% renewable energy generation across the state by 2030.
