Nitrogen stablizers good for environment and bottom line

Nitrogen stabilizers are good for producers’ operations and the environment.

That’s according to Corteva Agriscience’s Chris Kleumke, a market development specialist for nitrogen stabilizers.

Kleumke told News Talk WJAG whenever a grower applies nitrogen, it goes through a transformation and ends up in nitrates.

“Whenever nitrate is in the soil, it’s free to roam around and it doesn’t’ tie itself to soil particles,” Kleumke said. “What I’m hearing from my counterpart in Nebraska is that nitrates are getting down into the water and that’s not good for human consumption.

“And if we can reduce the number of nitrates getting in the soil water, that’s a good day for Nebraska.”

Kluemke said Corteva sells products that hold nitrates in the ammonia form, which allows it to attach itself to a soil particle.

Klumke spoke with News Talk WJAG at the National Association of Farm Broadcasters Convention last November in Kansas City.
