WOOD COUNTY, W.Va. (WTAP) – Pickering Energy Solutions received grants for solar panel projects in Wood County.
Earlier in November, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin announced funding for two solar projects in Wood County. The funding was part of $4.3 million going to 23 different projects in West Virginia.
The projects in Wood Co. are the solar arrays at the Polymer Alliance Zone facility and the solar panels at Blennerhassett Elementary School. Both of these projects are being completed by Pickering Energy Solutions.
Nick Arnold, the Operations Manager of the company, said he enjoys doing projects like these.
Pickering Energy Solutions was founded in 2012 to help provide development and support local projects like these. The company’s president, Chip Pickering, said he got the idea of bringing renewable energy to the area when he was traveling to and from Africa.
Chip said he was able to fund the projects through grants.
The Polymer Alliance Zone is getting $300,000 ($100,000 in loans, $200,000 in grants) and Blennerhassett Elementary School project is getting $146,000.
Nick said the company likes bringing renewable energy to the area.
