Solar panel installations at three Louisville Metro buildings

October 8, 2024

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Government is taking new steps to achieve their goal of shifting to clean, renewable energy.

Mayor Craig Greenberg announced Tuesday that three city buildings are switching to solar power. One of those locations is the Southwick Community Center in the Park Duvalle neighborhood.

It’s part of the mayor’s plan to achieve 100% clean electricity for city operations by 2030.

“We’re not here today just because we like solar energy. We’re here because the weather is trying to tell us that we have to find a better way to make electricity or stop using it,” Sam Avery of the Renewable Energy Alliance of Louisville said. “Carbon-based fuels are changing the earth’s atmosphere faster than anyone thought possible.”

In addition to the Southwick Community Center, the Iroquois Library and Fire Engine 8 in the Klondike neighborhood are also switching to solar energy.
