Synera Renewable Energy secures establishment permit for Formosa 4
November 15, 2024
Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) has secured an establishment permit from Taiwan’s Energy Administration for its 495MW Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Project.
This achievement positions Formosa 4 as the first among the successful bidders in the first round of auctions for Phase 3 Zonal Development of Offshore Wind to reach this critical milestone.
Located off the coast of Miaoli County, Formosa 4 is also the first project in this round to receive a letter of consent from the local government, an essential step towards the final establishment permit.
Formosa 4 represents SRE’s third offshore wind endeavour in Taiwan.
Once operational, the wind farm is expected to power more than 500,000 households.
SRE chair Lucas Lin said: “We are deeply grateful to the central authorities, local government, and relevant agencies for their recognition and support of Formosa 4, which has enabled our team to steadily progress through each review process and achieve this significant milestone.

“SRE maintains strong confidence in Taiwan’s offshore wind potential and remains committed to the market.
“As a leading offshore wind developer in Taiwan, we will continue driving our projects forward to accelerate the energy transition.”
In August this year, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs awarded capacity for five wind farm projects, totalling 2.7GW, in its recent 3.2 offshore auction.
The selected projects were Shinfox’s 700MW Youde, SRE’s 800MW Formosa 6, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ 600MW Fengmiao 2, the 360MW Formosa 3 joint venture between Corio and TotalEnergies, and Enervest’s 240MW Deshuai.
