The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Engineering and Mines (CEM) announced it has launched an energy resource engineering bachelor’s program. Students can enroll in the course beginning fall 2024.

Developed over 2 years with input from students, industry, and UAF’s Alaska Center for Energy and Power, the program combines coursework in conventional and renewable energy to equip students with skills for Alaska’s unique energy needs and the global energy transition.

The hands-on curricula includes training in energy drilling, geothermal and petroleum production, renewable systems, and carbon capture. Students can pursue careers across energy sectors, from oil and gas to emerging fields like hydrogen, wind, and nuclear.

Through partnerships with local organizations, the program offers real-world learning experiences and aims to meet ABET accreditation standards, preparing graduates for leadership in the energy industry.

“This program ensures Alaska’s leadership in energy innovation,” said CEM Dean Bill Schnabel at the Renewable Energy Fair in August.
