13 Early Black Friday Deals That Are Surprisingly Awesome

We want you to spend your Black Friday climbing, not shopping—whether that’s picking your way up some just-in ice, grabbing jugs at the gym, or just climbing out of a food coma. To that end, we’ve rounded up some of the best Black Friday climbing deals out there so you can spend less time scrolling and more time sending (or trying to, anyway).
Most of the deals we’ve outlined are available at REI and Backcountry. REI’s early Black Friday deals can be found at its Holiday Sale, which runs through November 24 with up to 30% off. This will be it as far as deals this week from the retailer, since they close stores on Black Friday as part of their #OptOutside campaign. Backcountry has already launched into its Black Friday deals with up to 60% off and new deals added periodically. Individual brands like Black Diamond or Ocun may launch their sales a few days after the retailers of the bunch.
A couple Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping tips:
- Shop early. If you see some gear you want or sorely need, don’t wait. While the discounts may not go away, inventory may run out. Plus, REI will be ending its sale before Black Friday so if you see a deal there now, carpe deal.
- Be strategic on shoe sizing. Choose a deal on shoes from a brand you’ve worn before and know your size in. Alternatively, measure your foot and do a little deep dive on the brand’s sizing charts. Also check the comments regarding whether the shoes run large or small. If you can, hop over to a brick and mortar REI and try them on in person. Worse comes to worst, you can always resell them
If you don’t see any deals here that strike your fancy, check back as we’ll be making updates and adding new Black Friday climbing deals periodically, including on Cyber Monday.
Black Friday climbing deals on shoes
Looking to build out your climbing shoe quiver? Is your go-to pair beyond the point of resole or repair? Ready to graduate to a more performance-oriented design? This is your moment. You may be thinking: But I’m not going to be climbing much for the next few months. I’ll just wait.
Real ones know that would be a grave error. Because come February or March, you will still need shoes. But they probably won’t be on sale. Plus, if you plan ahead and invest now, you can spend the winter breaking them in a bit around the gym (or just your house). Here are a few standout Black Friday climbing deals on rock and approach shoes to consider.
La Sportiva Miura VS Climbing Shoes (25% off)

Shop La Sportiva Miura VS Climbing Shoes – Women’s
If your footwork repertoire involves pockets and micro edging, the La Sportiva Miura VS Climbing Shoe is among the best. We recently chose the Miura VS as the best tech shoe out there. With an aggressive downturn and semi-stiff, low-profile toe box, this shoe is perfect for precision climbing up slab and narrow cracks. Note that VS means this shoe uses a Velcro closure. The lace-up version is also marked 25% off at REI right now.
La Sportiva Katana Lace Climbing Shoes (25% off)

La Sportiva’s Katana is an awesome technical shoe for edging and beyond. Note that the men’s version is stiffer than the women’s version. This shoe is great for precision placements on slab, narrow cracks, and steep routes. You can check out our review of the Katana here.
Note: Only the men’s version is on sale and inventory is limited.
La Sportiva TX2 Evo Approach Shoes (25% off)

With great grip and breathability, these approach shoes strike a near-perfect balance between nimble hiking and climbing performance—without the weight. That’s why we recently selected the TX2 Evo as our top pick for a lightweight approach shoe. We also love that La Sportiva crafts it with recycled materials and a sole designed for easy repairs. This is one of the best Black Friday climbing deals out there if you need a good approach shoe.
Black Friday deals on more climbing gear
Beyond shoes, there’s a lot more climbing gear on sale out there during Black Friday. Ropes, packs, and more are all marked down 25% or more. Here are our top editor-tested picks.
Edelrid Birdlime 9.8mm Rope (25% off)

Most climbers care about the planet. We can do our part in a lot of ways, one of which is buying more planet-friendly gear. Edelrid manufactured this 70m rope with over 40% renewable materials, leveraging a bio-based polyamide in part made from castor oil. This is the first synthetic rope of its kind that relies less heavily on fossil fuels. Of course, the rope has to work, too, and in tests, we found it held up well. It feeds well and proved kink-resistant in our tests. We dubbed it the best eco-friendly cord in our latest rope guide.
Petzl NEOX Belay Device (25% off)

If you’ve been less than stoked on dishing out slack to a lead climber using a Grigri, you’ve got to try the Petzl NEOX Belay Device. We’ve used it for rock, gym, and ice climbing and and we’re big fans. Using the same cam-assisted blocking that makes the Grigri the safer choice over an ATC or other devices, the NEOX innovates with an integrated wheel that makes feeding out slack faster and smoother. Petzl also engineered the NEOX with recycled materials to reduce its environmental impact.
Black Diamond Ultralight Ice Screw

BD’s got a few ice screws on sale and we love this one for fast-and-light missions. Not only is this aluminum-steel hybrid screw super lightweight, but it handles beautifully, which we definitely appreciate when the cold is getting the better of our digits.
A six pack of quickdraws (25% off)

Most of us could use a few more quickdraws. And more of us could probably stand to retire some draws with worrisome grooves or sharp edges, or worn webbing. Get a six pack from C.A.M.P. of the Photon Express Janja Quickdraws for 25% off. Choose from 12cm (marked down to $119.89 for the set) or 18cm (marked down to $124.39).
Black Diamond Solution Guide (25% off)

Our best all-around harness of 2025, our testers took the harness all over, from hard sport routes and funky offwidths, to long multi-pitch climbs. After a full season, including hundreds of falls, the Solution Guide showed no wear and tear, other than some dirt. Black Diamond uses “Contour Edge Technology” for the waist and leg loops, meaning they’re more rigid in the middle, but flexible and soft at the edges for increased comfort. This offered great hip support and made it supremely comfortable.
Black Diamond Creek 35L Pack (25% off)

In our 2025 guide to the best climbing backpacks and kitbags, we labeled the Black Diamond Creek 50L Pack the best for cragging. Black Diamond engineered its flagship backpack with best-in-class durability and thoughtful features. One of the greatest things about this pack is the side zipper, which makes accessing gear in the depths of this pack easy.
While unfortunately, retailers don’t appear to have any inventory in the 50L right now (though you can find it at full-price at Black Diamond), the 35L size is available and on sale. Light-and-fast climbers seeking a smaller pack might like the 35L thanks to a few features. A rope strap lets you load your rope on top of the pack. Throw your helmet over the rope with a stowable rain hood that keeps it in place. And clip a water bottle and/or shoes to the front grab handle. Note that we will add the 50L to this list if it becomes discounted over the Black Friday climbing deals period.
Black Diamond Vision Helmet (25% off)

Lightweight, breathable, and comfortable, this lid won the title of best all-around helmet among our testers in 2025. Testers commented on the easy adjustability of this helmet. The Vision also impressed us with its breathability thanks to the large, oblong vents that cover most of the sides of the helmet. We wore the Vision in 90-degree-plus temperatures, and noticed minimal excess sweating.
Metolius Recon Crashpad (25% off)

“The ingenious Metolius Recon solves the carry vs. coverage dilemma with a pad that opens to 42” x 60” x 4” and folds to 42” x 22” x 13”,” wrote tester James Lucas several years ago when he reviewed the Recon. He also loved the big external pocket for storing essentials, the cush shoulder straps, and the dual handles on each side. Testers also praised the four inches of foam that kept their knees and ankles happy. We also included the Recon as one of our dozen favorite crashpads out there.
STATIC Rachel Pohl Artist Series Chalk Bag (30% off)

While we haven’t tested this particular chalk bag, it’s also pretty hard to mess up a chalk bag. This limited edition series from STATIC will bring a little visual beauty and joy to your climbing with the mountain-inspired artwork of Rachel Pohl. Choose from an image of Torres del Paine, a cirque, or a bison amid mountains. We think this would make for a pretty awesome stocking stuffer or gift for the climber in your life.
