TACOMA, Wash. — Two men have been charged after prosecutors said they cut through the roof of a Tacoma cannabis distribution business and tried to steal about $25,000 in products.
Maurice Lynn Allen III and Treyvion Domineek Green were charged Friday in Pierce County Superior Court with first-degree burglary, first-degree malicious mischief and attempted first-degree theft.
Allen was also charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. Green was also charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer.
According to court documents, officers responded to a burglary reported around 2:31 a.m. on Thursday at MGE Distribution, located at 1216 Center St. in Tacoma.
Dispatchers reported live video showed two people entering the business through the roof.
Officers arrived and saw two people on the roof. Police said Allen jumped, ran, and was tased as he attempted to climb over a fence before he was taken into custody. Officers said a shirt tied like a mask, sunglasses and a glove were removed from him after his arrest.
Green was later found by a police K9 inside a separate office in an enclosed area of the property, according to the documents.
Inside the business, officers found a ladder leading to a freshly cut hole in the roof, according to court documents. Police said framing, insulation, drywall and roofing material were on the floor below.
Investigators also found a chainsaw and other tools on the roof, along with multiple boxes of cannabis products. The business owner told police the tools and ladder did not belong to the business, according to the documents.
The owner estimated about $25,000 in finished cannabis products had been stolen and said the damage to the building totaled about $100,000, according to court documents. Police said the business also had fresh damage to wires where a security camera was supposed to be.
Police said the suspects spent more than an hour breaking into the building through the roof.
