Two Tesla Cybertrucks were destroyed and others damaged in a fire that broke out on the roof of a Santa Monica parking structure Wednesday afternoon, fire officials confirmed.

Santa Monica Fire Department crews responded around 3:16 p.m. to the 2200 block of Colorado Avenue, where heavy smoke was reported coming from the roof of a seven-story parking structure attached to a large multifamily apartment building.

When firefighters arrived and investigated the structure, they discovered two Tesla Cybertrucks fully engulfed in flames on the rooftop level, according to the Santa Monica Fire Department.

Crews carried equipment and hose lines up the seven levels of the structure to begin an aggressive attack on the burning vehicles.

Officials said both Cybertrucks were a complete loss, and several other Tesla vehicles nearby were also damaged by the fire.

No injuries were reported among residents, visitors or firefighters.

Representatives from Tesla were also on scene to monitor the damaged electric vehicles due to the potential for thermal runaway, a condition in which lithium-ion batteries can reignite after a fire.

The Santa Monica Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire.
