2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV Sedan Makes You Go ‘Woah’
April 20, 2026
The new 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-class EV features an 800-volt architecture, a two-speed rear transmission, and up to around 350 miles of range.
The electric luxury sedan also debuts a new dash-spanning display that dominates the interior.
The electric all-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz C400 4Matic will come out first in the early half of 2027.
A new electric Mercedes-Benz C-class sedan is coming next year, and it is distinctly different from the familiar internal-combustion C-class. It goes without saying that the new EV also has unique styling, beginning with its prominent new nose that shares the same 1959 Mercedes-Benz W111 inspiration as the recently released GLC400 Electric. In fact, from dead-ahead, they’re practically a dead ringer for one another.
The new four-door C-class rides on a 116.6-in wheelbase, which is 3.8 inches longer than the gas-powered counterpart, which continues on. The elongated shape flows on back with a fastback sedan profile, with prominent rear haunches and star-themed taillights. Passengers have 0.9 inch more front headroom and 0.4 additional inches in back due to the standard panoramic glass roof. The trunk has 17 cubic feet of space, and there is another 4 cubic feet up front in the frunk.
The C400 4Matic will be powered by two electric motors that produce a combined 482 horsepower. Mercedes says this spec can sprint to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Interestingly, it has a two-speed rear-mounted transmission, with an 11:1 first gear for snappy acceleration and a lazier 5:1 second gear for efficient cruising. Meanwhile, the front motor drives through a single-speed gearbox that merely disconnects when cruising speed is reached.
Mercedes’s new C-class Electric also features an 800-volt architecture. That’s good for smaller cable size throughout, but it’s also good for quick DC fast-charging rates. You can add power at a rate of 330 kW when connected to a 350-kW charge station. Couple that with 94 kWh of usable battery capacity, and you end up with 350 miles of estimated range, which is what we get when Mercedes’s estimate of 472 miles of WLTP range is passed through their conservative conversion rate. While we must wait for the EPA’s estimates, they’re bound to be good.
Smart Braking, Steering, and Suspension
The C-class EV will also recuperate back to a standstill to maximize electric range, at rates of up to 300 kW. That’s more than enough capacity so that all routine braking events can be carried out electrically, but the feel is adjustable from normal brake-pedal feel to one-pedal driving, which you can set via the steering-wheel paddles. If you mash the pedal hard enough to engage the friction brake system, Mercedes says you’ll get the same smooth and predictable brake response.
Also available on the new electric C-class sedan is the Agility and Comfort package, which combines the brand’s Airmatic air suspension with intelligent dampers and rear-axle steering. The intelligent damping features Car-to-X technology that uses other Mercedes vehicles to mark spots on the road so that your car can seemingly predict where the bad places are and prepare for them. As for the rear-axle steering, it can turn up to 4.5 degrees in the opposite direction at low speeds to cut the turning diameter to just 36.7 feet, while at higher speeds it switches to same-phase operation to enhance straight-line stability.
Interior Goodness
But you don’t have to drive anywhere to appreciate the interior upgrades, of which the available 39.1-inch “Hyperscreen” is the star. Comprised of a single continuous screen stretching from one climate vent to the other, this setup encompasses the instrument cluster, infotainment, and passenger displays into one, with all of them seemingly floating on a common background. It’s the same thing that we sampled in the Mercedes-Benz GLC400 SUV, and it’s just as compelling. Also available is an Augmented Reality Head-Up display, which has a generous 18-inch display area.
Overhead, the standard panoramic sunroof can be upgraded with the Sky Control option. This allows the glass to be switched from transparent to opaque in nine specific segments. It can be triggered to dim the entire cabin, or it can be dimmed selectively so the front and rear passengers get a different setting. There are also 162 stars that can be triggered with the ambient lighting package, with dimmable brightness and color control that matches the ambient selection.
Those who want it can get a fully vegan interior, in which every component of every material, right down to the dyes and glues that are used, is certified by the Vegan Society to be free of animal products. Whether you get a vegan interior or not, you’ll get the German AGR seal (Organization for Healthy Backs) for ensuring long-distance comfort.
The new 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-class will go on sale sometime in the first half of 2027, starting off with the all-wheel-drive C400 4Matic. We’re not sure about the timing of the other models just yet, but we are aware of at least one.
