Amazon and Walmart are both billion dollar companies. Walmart has always been known as the store with rock-bottom prices, but consumers might be surprised that the Amazon Basics brand actually costs less than Walmart when it comes to many household essential items.

Amazon’s third-quarter earnings showed the company’s net sales were $180 billion. Walmart’s third-quarter revenue was $179.5 billion. So, both companies show strong growth and dedicated customers.

Still, savvy consumers want to know where to get the best prices in today’s market, so here are five everyday essentials to get at Amazon instead of Walmart. Pay close attention to Amazon’s Subscribe & Save program and Prime benefits, as these extra discounts really make a difference when comparing prices to big-box stores like Walmart.

The 24-pack of Duracell AA batteries from Walmart is typically just over $20 but is currently on sale for $18.67. Walmart also offers a 48-count of AA Great Value batteries, which are $14.97 but only have over 1,800 ratings.

Amazon Basics AA batteries have more than 879,000 reviews, earning a 4.7 out of 5-star rating. A large pack of 48 batteries is typically less than $15 on Amazon. Customers with Prime are eligible for an extra 10% off if they make other qualifying purchases.

Winter is the time of year where it’s nice to have a few space heaters around the house to help warm up smaller spaces. Amazon sells an Amazon Basics ceramic space heater for $22.94, and Walmart has a comparable Walmart Mainstays ceramic space heater for $23.88.

For those who prefer cleaning with microfiber cloths, Amazon sells a large 24-pack of Amazon Basics microfiber cleaning cloths for just $9.11. Conversely, consumers can get four packs of two Great Value Microfiber cloth for $7.92.

Considering the price per cloth, Amazon provides a way better value on this cleaning product. Shoppers can also get an extra 10% off as Prime members purchasing other eligible household items.
