DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — Residents who live near a vacant parcel of land in Anthony, New Mexico, are worried that the land will possibly be used to operate a cannabis business.
The land’s property owner is seeking a permit from Doña Ana County to operate the business, according to signs posted on the property located at 1240 Gardner Road.
Gilbert, a resident who lives near the parcel of land, said, “The lounge aspect of this situation is the only thing I don’t think is a good idea. I’m not necessarily opposed to the consumption lounges, but in this area, it just doesn’t seem like a good idea.”
The sign states that the establishment would include space for retail, cultivation, and a cannabis consumption lounge.
The sign also says there will be a public hearing held by the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 13 at 845 N. Motel Blvd. in Las Cruces.
