Last year, it was hard not to feel pretty good about the market. This year, it’s been a bloodbath. This is what I’m asking myself after a wobbly first quarter.

At the end of last year, it was hard not to feel pretty good about the market. My modest portfolio was in all the right things and showing a healthy gain.

If I were a fund manager, I’d probably have sent a self-congratulatory letter to clients pointing out the great returns with limited risk, telling them to ignore the doomsayers who told us everything was overpriced.
