MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – This weekend marks an important anniversary in Mobile and along the Gulf Coast.
The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program posted on its Facebook page a reminder that the Deepwater Horizon oil spill happened on this weekend 15 years ago.
Here is the post:
On this weekend 15 years ago, the Gulf Coast was rocked by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. In the years since the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program has leveraged more than $50 million of funding from the NFWF Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund to directly benefit coastal Alabama. As we reflect on the disaster and its impact on the Gulf Coast, we remember the lives lost and the toll on our ecosystem, and we are grateful to our partners and the hard work accomplished to help restore our waters.
