BBC and Netflix join forces for new British series with stacked Taskmaster star line-up

May 28, 2025

The BBC and Netflix have announced the commission of a new comedy podcast titled The Big Pitch With Jimmy Carr.

Co-produced by BBC Studios Audio and Netflix Podcasts, each episode of the 10-part comedy series will see a different comedian pitch a movie idea that fits one of Netflix’s most obscure sub-genres.

They must describe the plot and who they would cast, with Jimmy Carr deciding at the end whether to greenlight the movie or condemn it to development hell.

The comedians who will guest star on the podcast and pitch their ideas – many of whom have appeared on Taskmaster – include Nick Mohammed, Phil Wang, Romesh Ranganathan, Ahir Shah, Kerry Godliman, Michelle Wolf, London Hughes, Chris McCausland, Jamali Maddix and Asim Chaudhry.

The Big Pitch With Jimmy Carr is available from today wherever you listen to your podcasts, while visualised episodes are available to watch now on the ‘Netflix Is A Joke’ YouTube page.

“By night I’m a stand-up comedian but by day I have a proper job in real show business. I commission movies for Netflix. So, if you’ve ever seen a movie you liked on Netflix – you’re welcome,” said Jimmy.

“This podcast gives a glimpse behind the scenes of the rigorous pitching process and it’s also a good excuse to mess around with some very funny friends.”

The announcement comes after the success of Prime Video’s comedy series Last One Laughing UK, which saw Jimmy oversee 10 famous comedians in a locked room as they tried to make each other laugh without laughing themselves.

The series – which featured stars including Lou Sanders, Bob Mortimer, Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett and Sara Pascoe – proved to be a huge hit with audiences, breaking records for Prime Video as one of the streamer’s biggest UK launches ever.

Following its success, it was confirmed earlier this month that a second season is in the works with Jimmy returning to host.

“I’m absolutely delighted that Last One Laughing is coming back for a second series,” said Jimmy.

“I think what’s happened is someone high up at Amazon has clicked ‘subscribe & save’ on Prime Video and, hey presto, we’re back in business.”
