DEMCO and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC have announced that the Amite Solar Energy Center, operated by Amite Solar, LLC, is now officially operational. This milestone marks NextEra Energy Resources’ first utility-scale energy project in Louisiana and brings a new source of clean, American-produced electricity to the state’s communities. As a subsidiary of one of the nation’s leading energy infrastructure developers, the Amite Solar Energy Center reflects the companies’ commitment to expanding reliable renewable energy access across the region.
Located in Tangipahoa Parish, the energy center has the capacity to generate up to 100 megawatts of electricity—enough to power thousands of homes and businesses across Louisiana. The facility began commercial operations in March 2025 and has since been contributing consistent and dependable energy to the local power grid. The construction of the project took approximately 15 months and provided a meaningful economic boost to both Tangipahoa Parish and the wider state economy.
Randy Pierce, chief executive officer and general manager at DEMCO, said in a statement, “Thanks to this collaboration with NextEra Energy Resources, our members will benefit from dependable, low-cost, fixed-price energy for the next 25 years. It’s a smart, long-term partnership that reflects our shared commitment to delivering lasting value to the communities we serve.”
Stuart McCurdy, vice president of development at NextEra Energy Resources, stated, “This is a monumental moment for our team, and we are proud to work with DEMCO to bring low-cost solar energy to their co-op members. We’re thrilled to deliver homegrown energy that supports local jobs and economic development, exemplifying the power of collaboration between energy infrastructure developers, the community and local utilities in meeting the unprecedented energy demand. These funds can be used to strengthen local schools, improve roads and support other essential public services. This is about more than energy – it’s about investing in the future of Louisiana communities.”
Around 200 construction jobs were created during the build phase, and the project supported local businesses through the purchase of goods and services from regional vendors. Looking ahead, the Amite Solar Energy Center is expected to generate about $16 million in additional tax revenue for Tangipahoa Parish over its 30-year lifespan. The facility is built, owned, and operated by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, ensuring a long-term focus on operational reliability and sustained economic benefits for the local community.
