Illinois released sales figures for adult-use cannabis in April today. The state’s adult-use cannabis sales were down 0.6% sequentially to $146.6 million, and this an increase on a per-day basis of 3.8%. The year-over-year growth was 1.4%, worse than the gain in January but better than the declines in February and March:
Units sold increased by 9.0% from a year ago, suggesting lower prices or substitution of lower-priced products by consumers. Units sold rose 4.6% sequentially.
After increasing 106% in 2021, 13% in 2022 and then 5% in 2023, year-to-date adult-use sales were up 5.4% in 2024 to $1.72 billion. So far in 2025, they are up just 0.4%. During March, sales to non-residents were 20.5%:
The state separately releases sales from its medical program, and the release for April showed that sales fell 1.6% sequentially to $19.7 million, which was down 13.2% from a year ago:
For March, combined adult-use and medical sales were $168.4 million, decreasing 0.7% sequentially and down 0.7% from a year ago:
Total sales of $2.01 billion in 2024 were up 2.5% from 2023. So far in 2025, they have declined by 1.9% compared to the first three months of 2024.
