SINGAPORE – A Malaysian man was arrested on June 14 after about 1.4kg of heroin, among other drugs, was found in a car he was driving at Woodlands Checkpoint.

Some 495g of cannabis and 115g of Ice were also discovered behind the Malaysia-registered car’s glove compartment, said the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) in a joint statement on June 17.

Those who import into or export from Singapore more than 15g of diamorphine, or pure heroin, may face the death penalty under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The drugs were found in three bundles, after the car was subjected to enhanced checks by ICA officers at the checkpoint. The officers found one bundle of drugs and alerted CNB officers, who then found two more bundles.

ICA and CNB said the drugs seized are estimated to be worth more than $173,000 and could potentially feed the addiction of about 800 abusers for a week.

Investigations are ongoing.
