Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says the rollout of AI tech will cut total headcount at the e-commerce titan.

In a note to employees, Jassy said fewer people would be needed in some roles, but more in others.

Amazon is already using AI to do things like optimize its inventory and improve customer service.

The firm says the bot can learn what to do just by watching a human perform a task and will start work in live industrial settings later this year.

Speaking in Paris, Chief Executive Jensen Huang told French President Emmanuel Macron he shouldn’t let his country become dependent:

“You should do everything in your power to try to advance AI here. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with still using public AIs and Cloud AIs and such, but you cannot afford to outsource all of it, especially because you have incredible talent here.”

Sam Altman says Meta is offering OpenAI employees bonuses of $100 million to jump ship.

The claim comes after the Facebook parent firm moved to ramp up its AI efforts.

That’s just one factor driving feverish competition for talent, with superstar researchers now courted like top athletes.

There was no immediate comment from Meta on Altman’s claims, which Reuters could not verify.

And Barbie-maker Mattel has teamed up with OpenAI to develop toys and games with artificial intelligence, the company said.

The toymaker said it will use AI to offer “age-appropriate play experiences,” with the first products due out later this year.
