D.C. shutters two more unlicensed cannabis shops, bringing total closures to 68

District regulators padlocked two more cannabis shops in Northwest Washington as part of the city’s ongoing crackdown on unlicensed businesses.

The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA), working with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), issued Closure Orders on August 15 to Capitol Club DC, located at 3429 14th Street NW, and Good Smoke Dispensary, at 1834 14th Street NW.

According to the ABCA’s press release, the agency determined both businesses were operating illegally and posed an imminent risk to public health and safety.

While serving the order at Capitol Club DC, MPD officers seized nearly two pounds of cannabis. At Good Smoke Dispensary, officers confiscated nearly two pounds of cannabis along with 30 grams of mushrooms, 207 grams of THC concentrate, more than 1,400 grams of THC edibles and 20 grams of THC vapes.

The closures mark the 68th illegal business padlocked since the passage of emergency legislation in July 2024 that gave ABCA expanded enforcement powers to shut down unlicensed cannabis shops.
