Greensboro Joins Hundreds of Communities Nationwide to Spotlight Solar, Wind, and Local Energy Solutions
Greensboro, North Carolina – On Sunday, September 21, Triad Third Act will host a Sun Day community event. It is the first-ever nationwide day of mobilization calling for the large-scale deployment of clean energy that is affordable, reliable and ready to use.
As part of this national movement, Third Act is hosting a joyful community event to celebrate and demonstrate that clean energy isn’t a far off dream, but is instead an immediate, practical solution to our current energy challenges that will bring down costs and improve reliability.
What: The event will feature speakers, solar circle discussions, information tables, art making, making a solar oven, electric vehicles, solar home users that send a clear message that we have the tools to power our communities with clean energy and overwhelming public support to do it. What we need now is for our elected officials to catch up and help turn it on.
The Sun Day event speakers will include:
Rep. Pricey Harrison (NC General Assembly, District 61)
Rev. Wesley Morris (Faith Community Church)
Margaret Rowlett (Guilford Clean Power Now).
Raging Grannies will perform.
Why: Solar energy is now the cheapest form of electricity generation in history, yet barriers remain to its widespread adoption. Through thousands of local events like this one, Sun Day aims to demonstrate the overwhelming public support for renewable energy and build momentum for policy changes needed to address climate change. According to Sun Day organizers, the United States added 50 gigawatts of solar power to the grid in 2024 – the most any energy source has added in two decades – enough to power 8.5 million homes.
“For decades we’ve called this stuff ‘alternative energy.’ We want to drive home the point that that’s not true any more –this is the straightforward, common-sense, obvious way to power our future, the cheapest way to drive down electric prices, the easiest way to build a working America,” said Bill McKibben, the driving force behind Sun Day and a pioneering voice in the climate movement.
