Franklin Township officials will hear a presentation from a cannabis farming company during their regular committee meeting Monday evening.

Grasshopper Farms, a local-sustainable farming collaborative that develops sun-grown cannabis strains for retailers nationwide, is scheduled to present to the township at 7 p.m. inside the Township Municipal Building on Monday, Oct. 6, at 2093 Route 57 in Franklin Township, Warren County.

Grasshopper Farms employs local farmers to produce its crop and inspect its yield, according to company website. The company boasts more than a decade of combined experience in growing expertise.

The company operates one other location in New Jersey in Galloway Township near Atlantic City. More farms are located in Michigan and Colorado.

The presentation comes after Franklin Township hosted a public hearing earlier this year to consider amending local zoning laws to allow for cannabis retail and production. No changes to the zoning code were approved by officials as of October.

Currently, all classes of cannabis establishments, cannabis distributors or cannabis delivery services as defined in Section 3 of P.L. 2021, c. 16 are prohibited in all districts, with the exception of delivery of cannabis items and related supplies by a delivery service.
