The time Prime Video turned pretty regretful.
Amazon’s streaming service issued an apology to a X user after mocking the size of her engagement ring by comparing it to the small ring Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) gave Belly (Lola Tung) in The Summer I Turned Pretty season three.
“Our recent tweet caused hurt and that’s not okay,” Prime Video India wrote Oct. 18. “We’ve removed it and are taking steps to ensure our content reflects our values of inclusivity. We’ll do better from hereon.”
Their apology came three days after their original message to a user named Savannah, who announced her engagement by sharing a photo of her dainty emerald ring. The streaming service wrote, “girl is there any chance your fiancé looks like this?” alongside a photo of Jeremiah from The Summer I Turned Pretty holding up Belly’s ring—alluding to the countless memes made over the last few months regarding the small size of the diamond in the Prime Video series.
However, the social media user called out their negativity on Oct. 18, writing, “When a huge streaming platform puts out a mean-spirited tweet about one of the happiest moments of your life for engagement, inviting harassment in droves.”
Regardless of the company’s mocking post, Savannah shared that she’s perfectly happy with her ring.
“Most of my posts don’t get more than twenty likes so one about a personal and special moment getting this much attention, a lot of it increasingly negative/judgmental, feels overwhelming,” she wrote on Oct. 16. “Consider that I’m a real person, I love my ring, and I’m very, very happy.”

Season three of the teen drama led to a plethora of online discourse—and with it came a lot of hate, even toward the real-life stars.
In particular, Gavin received criticism of his character’s actions, including when Jeremiah cheated on Belly and proposed to her to try and gain her forgiveness. And back in August, he spoke out regarding the problem.
“I think it’s important to also understand and realize that this is a fictional story,” Gavin told The New York Times, “and it’s also not me.”
The official The Summer I Turned Pretty account on X even made a post calling out the behavior, where they asked fans to “keep the conversation kind this summer.”
“We have a ZERO tolerance policy for bullying and hate speech,” the July post read. “If you engage in any of the following, you will be banned.”
