OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – First Alert 6 has the headlines you need to know to get your Monday started.
Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission to hold meeting Monday
The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission is set to meet Monday and look over two grower applications.
The commission was supposed to get the licenses approved by the start of October, but was unable to after two members resigned at the request of Gov. Jim Pillen. The two former members, who also served on the Liquor Control Commission, are Bruce Bailey and Kim Lowe.
The commission is allowing four growers, but only two have been approved so far. It started with a list of 39 applicants.
First Alert 6 is also told the group could finalize their emergency regulations Monday. If approved, Governor Pillen and Attorney General Hilgers would still need to sign off on the rules before they take effect.
The first meeting of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska’s Cannabis Commission was held last Monday to swear in members and appoint officers.

Nebraska DHHS sued over message on website amid govt. shutdown
As we enter day 34 of the government shutdown, a message on Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services website has led to a lawsuit.
Nebraska DHHS paused Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits Wednesday, meaning more than 150,000 residents will not see their funding renewed until the shutdown is over.
The message on the website blames Democrats for the shutdown, saying they are using Nebraska’s “most vulnerable people for political leverage.”
Lancaster County resident Kay Siebler filed a lawsuit against Steve Corsi, the Chief Executive Officer for the Nebraska DHHS.
“So these people who purport to be Catholic, who purport to be Christian, who purport to be pro-life, they are causing this suffering and it’s hypocritical, it’s despicable and it’s illegal,” Siebler said.
Siebler said her first priority would be getting SNAP benefits reinstated, but at the very least, the department should be required to remove the message.

Raiola has started the previous 22 games for Nebraska, including all nine games this season. He finishes his sophomore season with 2,000 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions with a 6-3 record.
