Bestselling Authors Reveal Their Top 12 Favorite Books of the Year: ‘Wildly Underrated’

The authors of some of 2025’s most beloved books are finally naming their favorite reads of the year.

Taylor Jenkins Reid, R. F. Kuang, S. A. Cosby and more authors whose books were featured on Time magazine’s list of the 100 must-read books of 2025 shared their top releases this year in an Instagram video posted by the outlet’s account on Friday, November 14.

Reid praised Best Offer Wins by Marisa Kashino, teasing, “It starts out feeling pretty light and fun, but I promise you you have no idea where this story is going.”

Meanwhile, Kuang recommended Girl Dinner by Olivie Blake and All That We See or Seem by Ken Liu, and Cosby endorsed Saint of the Narrows Street by William Boyle and The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones.

Ocean Vuong lauded his fellow Time honoree Bryan Washington’sPalaver, pointing to the themes of “friendship, redemption, care and estrangement between mother and son” as reasons to pick up the novel.

For his part, Washington suggested We Do Not Part by Han Kang.

Lily King was impressed by Virginia Evans’The Correspondent, noting, “I really don’t know how she does it. Even though it is a series of letters, she puts 15 plates in the air. She makes everyone completely suspenseful.”

As for Bolu Babalola, she described her pick, Kennedy Ryan’sCan’t Get Enough, as a “sexy, grown story about surrendering to love.”

Katie Kitamura mentioned Ariana Koch’sOverstaying as “a book that I think has gotten a little bit less attention” than it should have.

Our Last Wild Days by Anna Bailey got Kate Fagan’s stamp of approval as “gritty and wildly underrated,” with Fagan adding that “not enough people read this.”

Finally, Yrsa Daley-Ward recommended her own book The Catch, gushing, “It came out in June, and I was just so happy to have it out in the world.”
