Cannabis farm found in former bank
GoogleHundreds of cannabis plants have been found growing inside a disused former high street bank.
Officers from South Yorkshire Police made the discovery at the old Yorkshire Bank on Lound Side in Chapeltown during a pre-planned raid, a spokesperson said.
They confirmed a 31-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis, while a 22-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis and immigration offences. Both remain in custody.
The branch closed in 2020 and was subject to an unsuccessful planning application to demolish it and build 25 apartments on the site in March, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
