Lhyfe has a vast portfolio of renewable energy projects in France, but the company has welcomed the expansion of Germany’s hydrogen sector as the nation aims to meet its clean energy targets by the end of the decade.

Lhyfe recently held an inauguration ceremony to celebrate the successful completion of the hydrogen facility in Baden-Württemberg, with the who’ who of the region in attendance. The inauguration ceremony outlines Germany’s ambition to increase investments in renewable energy power, which, at the moment, is catching up to the oil and gas sectors in Germany.

The new facility is Lyfe’s fourth, and its first outside of France. The astonishing size of the project requires a one-hectare plot of land that will feature a plant capable of producing up to 4 tons of renewable hydrogen per day. The hydrogen produced on-site has been earmarked to decarbonize the mobility and industrial sectors in Germany.

To ensure sustained operations, Lhyfe will lean on German renewable electricity providers

Lhyfe has noted that it has signed PPAs with several electricity providers in Germany and has plans to develop long-term relationships to ensure a stable supply of energy for the project. The facilities on-site have been constructed in a container format with stackable modules, which will help reduce their impact and footprint on the region.

The renewable hydrogen produced on-site has been earmarked for the mobility and industrial sectors in Germany, with an agreement already having been reached for the supply of regional hydrogen refuelling stations of H2 MOBILITY, a market-leading hydrogen refueling station operator in the nation.

The project has been subsidized by several parties, including the state of Baden-Württemberg, which supplied €2.1 million, as well as the EU through the European Regional Development Fund, which has selected the project under its “H2-Wandel – Model Region for Green Hydrogen Baden-Württemberg” initiative. As Germany’s neighbor, Austria, recently revealed its plans to develop one of Europe’s biggest green hydrogen electrolysis facilities, Germany has proudly completed the commissioning of the hydrogen facility in Baden-Württemberg.
