Parts of the Niagara Region are expected to experience strong winds gusting to 90 kilometres per hour Wednesday afternoon.

Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, Port Colborne and Norfolk and Haldimand counties are all under a wind warning, says Environment Canada.

“Local utility outages are possible,” said the federal weather agency. “High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Some property damage is possible.”

It advises residents to secure “loose objects.”

Wind gusts will drop to 70 to 80 km per hour by Thursday morning.

A special weather statement is also in effect for Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford and St. Catharines, Environment Canada says.

Winds will gust up to 80 km per hour beginning Wednesday and ending Thursday night or Friday morning.

The average temperature across the area will be about 11 C Wednesday, with rain. Temperatures will drop Thursday and Friday, bringing a chance of flurries.
